RECENT FOOD EVENTS
Skerries flaunted its culinary wealth over the weekend, 14th & 15th November at the Fingal
Dublin Food festival. The festivities kicked off with a Mystery Dine
Around where participants put their dining fate in the hands of
others. They were first treated to an atmospheric tour of Skerries
Mills before being whisked of to one of Skerries many great
restaurants for starter, another for main course and yet another for
dessert. A number of diners commented it was 'one the best nights
they'd ever had'!
On Saturday, under the shadow of Skerries Mills, twelve Skerries
restaurants offered tastings of their wares in the Taste of Skerries
Marquee. Nearby the farmer's market showcased both the range and
quality of indigenous food cultivated, or caught in the case of fish,
in the area and other gourmet and speciality food products. During the
Taste of Skerries event three chefs, including Terry McCoy of the
Redbank Restaurant, shared a few cooking hints and secrets as they
demonstrated how to cook a delicious seafood chowder, how best to cook
a crab, and how to make the perfect paella. Interestingly most of the
ingredients were sourced from the nearby market exhibiting, yet again,
that good food depends on good ingredients and Fingal Dublin offers
good food in abundance.
Skerries is most definitely a gourmet's delight and the Fingal Dublin
Food festival more than demonstrated that. For those who missed the
event, don't worry, similar events are planned for Howth, Malahide,
Balbriggan, Donabate, Swords and Blanchardstown / Castleknock.
